I chose the blog of "Maangchi" written by Maangchi. She is Korean, but she lives in New York now. Also, she started the blog in 2007. She is introducing traditional and authentic Korean dishes. Amazingly, her blog has become the number one blog of Korean dishes!!
I chose the recipe for ”Braised beef in soy sauce”. Because I like Korean food and culture so I chose the recipe. And I want to eat beef very much!! I want to buy beef, but beef is very expensive for me. So I decided to eat beef on the occasion of this project. This food is one of the popular dishes in Korea.
Next, I'm going to talk about my experience. This recipe needs 1 pound of beef flank steak, water, soy sauce, garlic cloves, an onion, and green chili peppers. I want to buy all the ingredients, but I couldn't buy green chili peppers at the supermarket near my house. So, I bought red chili peppers instead. I thought 1 pound (about 450 grams)of beef was a lot for me living alone so I switched to about 300 grams of beef.
And, this is the picture of what I've prepared.
When finished, you can serve it for up to one week if you put it in such a storage container and keep it in the refrigerator. This is the Picture of the finished dish in a storage container.
Next, I will talk about bad and good points, I felt when I cooked with this recipe.
The bad point is that I found it difficult to know how big to cut the ingredients, and I felt it hard to cook. I think there was less explanation about the size of the ingredients in this recipe. I was especially confused about how to cut an onion. Also, it is that it takes too time to complete. When I cooked it, it took 2.5 hours for me. The cooking time seemed very long as it took at least an hour to simmer. It was too long time for me.
And the good points are that it was easy to see how the pot looked when the heat was on and simmering, and it was very delicious!! This recipe describes the heat level and what the inside of the pot will look like, so it is easy to cook. And, the taste was very delicious!! Before I ate, I thought it was salty, and beef was tough. But, the beef was tender with just the right amount of salt. Furthermore, the dish is healthy because it doesn’t use any oil!! It is very good for our health.
So, I will give the 4.7 star. Because the recipe is a little confusing in some areas, but it is a great way to make a very tasty beef dish. Also, I think it is a good point that it can serve for one week and healthy.
This recipe has some pictures and a video showing how to make it. These were very useful for me in my cooking. Especially, the video was effective. This video teaches the procedure in detail and slowly. So, I could cook with the video. I was able to adjust the simmering time by comparing the ingredients in the video with my ingredients, which was great! It also had audio, so it was easy to watch while cooking.
In addition to the recipes, I enjoyed reading about the author's memories of this dish and some of the ingredients commonly used in Korean cooking. So, I think you can enjoy reading the blog!
Cooking with this recipe, I found some parts difficult to understand, such as the lack of instructions on how to cut, but the pictures and video made it easy and tasty to cook. I also liked that the whole process was complete and easy to understand the process. So, I will give 4.7 stars to this recipe. And, I want to recommend it to anyone who likes Korean food! I would also recommend it to anyone living alone. Because it can serve for one week. You can use it in a lunchbox. But, I wouldn't recommend cooking it when you are short on time!
